GARCHEN BUDDHIST INSTITUTE WINTER TEACHINGS 2016 -17
EMPOWERMENTS AND TEACHINGS BESTOWED BY H.E. GARCHEN TRIPTRUL RINPOCHE.
This year’s Winter Teachings, December 30th 2016 – Janurary 8th, 2017 will be a very special time here at GBI.
For the first time in the United States, H.E. Garchen Rinpoche will bestow the Great Empowerment of Yamantaka. Previously Rinpoche has only given the abbreviated Torma Empowerment for this most profound Yidam Deity. At the request of Lama Abao, Rinpoche has agreed to bestow this empowerment for the benefit of his entire Mandala. There are many Lamas and Students who have completed 10 or more Yamantaka Drupchens , as a way of showing appreciation to the mandala and the commitment of the precious Sangha, Garchen Rinpoche has agreed to this. Though there is no difference in the power of the concise Torma Empowerment or the Extensive Empowerment, the blessings of the detailed guidance when leading students into the Mandala of Yamantaka using the more elaborate Great Empowerment are beyond description. It would be great merit and benefit if those participating in the empowerment would accumulate 150,000 peaceful Manjushrisi Mantras, Om Wam Gi Shawari Mum, by the time of the empowerment. If accumulating this amount of mantras by the time of the empowerment is not possible, it is acceptable to completed by the end of 2017.
Directly preceding and also following the Great Empowerment of Yamantaka, H.E. Garchen Rinpoche will be giving teachings and guidance on the Five Fold Path of Mahamudra, which is the life blood of practice for the Drikung Kagyu Tradition. Rinpoche will be teaching on Bodhicitta, Guru Yoga, Yidam Practice, and Mahamudra from the point of “The Four Yogas of Mahamudra”, and Dedication.
Following the profound teachings Rinpoche will grant the Empowerment of Tsewang Dzinpa, The Guru Who Holds Power of Life, referencing mastering the Vajra Body and Complete Awaking. Tsewang Dzinpa is a wrathful form of Guru Rinpoche revealed by the Great Drikung Terton Rinchen Phuntsok in the Yangzab Cycle of Dzogchen Teachings. The Tsewang Dzinpa empowerment is categorized as an Anuyoga practice in the nine yana system. Anuyoga practices focus mainly on the completion stage, or Dzogrim. The view of Anuyoga is that all phenomena are the creative expression of the indivisible unity of absolute space and primordial wisdom. Rinpoche will give a short teaching on the meaning of Tsewang Dzinpa both before and after the empowerment.
